The group's lead singer, Veronica Cruz, is an #NYPBrooklyn employee herself and volunteered to work in the hospital's Emergency Department so she could lend a helping hand to patients in need. She even helped coordinate her group's performances with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and NYPD.
"Singing is a stepping stone to healing," said Veronica. "I see the impact our music has on our heroes and I'm very proud to bring the beauty of mariachi to #NYP."
Mariachi Tapatio de Alvaro Paulino typically plays three songs at each campus - all of which honor our teams fighting the outbreak and those who tragically lost their lives.

Nick has worked in #NYPBrooklyn's Emergency Department for seven years and was recognized with a "Clinical Nurse Excellence" Award in 2019. Before becoming a nurse, he served the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) as a paramedic, and he continues to teach EMT and nursing classes. Nick was as ready as he could ever be, to work on the front lines and deliver emergency patient care.
What he did not expect, was to draw from his experiences learning to cut hair when he was a teenager in Jamaica.
